Celestial Event: Total Lunar Eclipse with astronomer Matthew Johnson

Free Event, Hosted by Aton Forest, March 13, 2025 from 11:30 pm to 6:00 am at The Norfolk Baseball Field, 50 Mountain Road, Norfolk, CT.

The Aton Forest Ecological Research Station in Norfolk, CT invites you to view a total lunar eclipse Astronomer Matthew Johnson, board member of Aton and author of the article The Celestial Sphere column in Norfolk Now, will guide and inspire us.

A lunar eclipse occurs in stages. In Norfolk, it will begin with the Moon entering into penumbral eclipse at 11:57 pm (slightly red), transitioning into the deeper umbral total eclipse phase lasting from 2:26 AM (deep red) to 3:31 am at which time the Moon leaves the umbral phase again entering into another penumbral phase (light red) which lasts to 6:00 am at which time the Total Lunar eclipse event has ended.

Considerations

All ages welcome
Pets must always be on a leash
Attendees are advised to dress for March weather
Bring hand-warmers, hot beverages, thermos, snacks, and a chair
Bring your own optics and any old binoculars and telescopes, tripods to sell or donate

Event will be cancelled if very cloudy, overcast, dangerous high winds or inclement weather.

Aton Forest is a non-profit land protection organization and ecological field station, created for preservation of Natural Area Preserves (semi-managed and wild lands) and operated for ecological and forest succession research in northwest Connecticut and surrounding bioregion.
