Nancy Elle Smith will speak about her 2026 book Downwind, The Wild Pulse of the Berkshires. The book explores the secret, often humorous lives of wild creatures (such as coyotes, moose, bobcats, and bears), using motion-activated trail cameras, personal field observations, and research.  .

“After years of conservation work through the Sheffield Land Trust and Sweet Water Trust, which helped protect huge tracts of natural land in the northeast, Nancy Smith decided to document the wild creatures in her own backyard… The book is beautifully composed with photography, humor, and astonishing detail. Like banners in the breeze, each chapter alerts us to the primal pull of the wild, for it is here that our brains, blitzed out by electronic messaging, can find some calm.” Berkshire Edge
