Science Lecture III on Sep 18th at 4:00 pm at the Norfolk Hub by Charley Eiseman, Aton Forest Research Fellow & Naturalist
Please join us at our Centennial Science Lecture III: “Aton Forest Leafminers” on Sep 18, 2026, by Charley Eiseman, Aton Forest Research Fellow. Sponsored by Aton Forest Inc, the Aton Forest Fellowship Trust, the Colebrook Conservation Commission, and the Norfolk Conservation Commission. PRESENTATION LINK and VIDEO LINK.
Leaf-miners are the larvae of certain moths, flies and beetles that feed between the epidermal layers of leaves. These insects leave diverse, often intriguing signs (“leaf-mines”) on their host plants. Charley Eiseman at https://charleyeiseman.com/ is a leading researcher of leaf-miners, bug tracks and more. “Leaf-miner Art” is both natural and surreal.
This Science Lecture III is part of the 2026 Aton Forest Centennial program which included a July Exhibition at the Norfolk Hub highlighting Aton’s scientific research work, the history of the Egler and Kitchel families’ conservation work in Norfolk and Colebrook, Connecticut, and Egler’s influence on Rachel Carson, the author of Silent Spring. In 2026, amongst its suite of activities, Aton Forest is hosting a series of 4 Science Lectures, supported by various members of the Norfolk Nature Alliance, a loose affiliation of environmental organizations in Norfolk, Connecticut.
Aton Forest Inc. is a dual-purpose 501c3 organization: we are an Ecosystem Field Station and we are Norfolk’s Natural Area land trust. This year we are celebrating our Centennial and the 2026 acquisition of the Spaulding Pond Preserve, a 1000-acre Natural Area, the creation of Happy Kitchel Egler.
The Centennial program also launched the 2026 book: THE SPIRIT OF ATON FOREST: Frank Egler, Rebel Ecologist, and the Pursuit of Science and Natural Area Protection, by Billy Gridley, President, Aton Forest. The book is available for sale at Les Renards Bookstore at Station Place, Norfolk, CT.
